The idea
Trees take a long time to grow—let’s use planters with trellises or structures and vines to create shade fast! Vines thrive in CO2-rich environments so planting them in areas with lots of cars or no tree canopy can cool down sidewalks or bus stops.
Who it helps and why
Many parts of the city lack tree coverage but digging up the street, planting a tree, and then maintaining that tree for years is costly and time consuming. We can add greenery and shade faster by using planters and trellises to get shade into spots that are too difficult to add trees (like next to bus stops). This will help cool neighborhoods lacking trees.
