The idea

Redesign Harvard Ave in Allston. This is a major corridor that is filled with litter, broken sidewalks, dangerous crossings, and constant double parking. Eliminate street parking, add protected bike lanes and food pickup spots, wider sidewalks.

Who it helps and why

Harvard Ave is the biggest highlight of Allston, where all of the restaurants are that the neighborhood is proud of. However, there's a stark difference between the Allston stretch and the Brookline portion not a mile away. Street parking can be eliminated in favor of pickup zones since there is a lot nearby and most drivers are only there briefly and often double park. Large sidewalks and tactical dining plazas can make the area more inviting. Protected bike lanes make it more safe. A beautiful shopping area encourages people to be proud of it and take care of it.
