Trees and reflective roofs in hottest neighborhoods
Resident asks for tree planting and heat-reflecting roofs in the city's hottest areas to reduce heat disparities affecting Black and lower-income neighborhoods.
English title and summary written with AI from the resident's text.
The resident's idea, as submitted
The idea
Reduce heat disparity by planting trees and adopting white or otherwise heat reflecting roofs in the hottest parts of the city.
Who it helps and why
Boston's predominantly Black neighborhoods and lower income neighborhoods are much hotter than whiter, wealthier neighborhoods. This endangers the health of the people living there and it will only get worse with climate change. We can address this disparity by creating shade and getting rid of heat sinks.
