The idea
My idea is to have one day a year designated as "Community Hall" day where residents, organizations, small businesses and other stakeholders are scheduled to come in and present their work, ideas, and needs to the relevant city departments.
Who it helps and why
Oftentimes we hear/see that certain neighborhoods or constituencies do not get the access and face time they need with relevant city decision-makers. Community Hall turns this dynamic on its head - the community leads the conversation for an entire day and city staffers listen/take notes. It is the Community's "city hall" and chance to speak - to use their presentation time as they envision is the most efficient for sharing their needs and visions with the city directly. Funding would support community presentation time and preparation, childcare, translation services and other needs for the day.
