City snow clearance of sidewalks, bus stops and bike lanes

Resident asks the City to take over snow clearing of sidewalks, bus stops and bike lanes, or at least clear for elderly neighbors, since less mobile residents are hit hardest.

The idea

The City of Boston should be responsible for snow clearance from all vulnerable road user spaces through clearance of sidewalks, bus stops, and prompt clearance of bike lanes. If not feasible on $2M, the City could clear for all elderly neighbors.

Who it helps and why

I am fortunate to be able-bodied and able to clear snow from my sidewalk and steps, but many residents are not, for a variety of reasons, particularly during big storms. The subsequent harm from uncleared pathways is disproportionately felt by residents that are less mobile (including residents of those homes). The City should manage responsibility of this issue rather than delegating to homeowners to improve safety of our City's pathways. Encouraging able-bodied volunteers to assist, as the City did during a later storm, might help mitigate cost.
