The idea
More public EV chargers and/or resources for renters without at-home chargers to own EVs. There are so many renters in this city that would prefer to have an EV over a gas car. Higher EV adoption rates would be good for our air quality
Who it helps and why
It takes a lot of wealth to own a home and install an EV charger on your property. Boston’s middle class and lower income residents who rent are blocked from switching to EVs because of this. More resources could make that switch possible, and owning an EV can be cheaper in the long run than owning a gas car (gas costs, maintenance costs.) Fewer gas cars would also mean better air quality in lower income neighborhoods.
