The idea
Despite the unprecedented heat waves, there are no public drinking fountains around Mass-and-Cass, a socio-environmentally vulnerable area. We propose the city install public water fountains in this area, which will also promote sustainability goals.
Who it helps and why
Individuals that would likely benefit most from the provision of public water fountains in this area include those experiencing homelessness, traveling to and from the area to receive substance use treatment, and/or seeking care at the Boston Medical Center, which is the area’s largest safety net hospital. Currently there are more water fountains in areas that are more affluent (northern side, wealthier parts of South End), yet there are no public water fountains at Mass and Cass.
