I feel retaining housing ability is a main issue.
Who it helps and why
Trump slashing federal funding for housing: If the state has to reduce the payment standard for Sec 8, Project place Dev, Elderly, Disabled, Public Projects and the landlord refuses to accept the lower payment a low income tenant cannot afford to make up difference of hundreds of dollars between state payment standard and what landlord wants. Plus if the state puts a cap on tenant paying more than 40% of yearly income for rent where do they go? Every landlord today waits for the HUD yearly report on area rents and raises rents accordingly. Finding a cheaper apt is almost impossible. We have a housing crisis in Boston now. Putting more people out on the street makes no sense. A disabled homeless person who uses a wheel chair or rollator walker would have it stolen by another who wants to use it as a shopping cart for their belongings. Any person who has severe medical issues would not fare well living on the street. Having a home to protect you from the cold, rain, snow, heat, rodents, other criminals is your best protection. You have some place to cook, store food and rest if necessary. Any excess money should be used for housing. Trump housing subsidy cuts will be devastating for the city and affects all racial boundaries and age groups.
