The idea
Create more green and open spaces in Chinatown for residents to enjoy and to help mitigate climate effects. This includes planting trees to significantly increase tree canopy in Chinatown, as well as creating more safe and open recreational spaces
Who it helps and why
Chinatown has faced environmental injustices for decades - being surrounded by multiple major highways, with little green space and constant new development. Yet, it remains and important hub for residents and immigrants because of its cultural resources and services. Chinatown also has one of the worst, if not the worst, air quality in Massachusetts. Creating more open green spaces in Chinatown would support the health and wellbeing of residents and visitors to the Chinatown area.
