The idea
The proposed inter-generational play project will be a poignant exploration of the clash between gentrification, homelessness and cultural decline, and the resilience of Boston's community members who fight to preserve their heritage.
Who it helps and why
There were and there are Women Like myself. Girls like myself. Who have lived. On the edge. On the outside. But they are not alone. They will have told us Their story. A Place to Live will be an inter-generational Play Project that directly addresses the belief that “a city must be built together” but through understanding. This project intentionally fosters a collaborative process within Boston's communities with elders who are seeing the gentrification of their city and the college students renting in their neighborhoods. Participants from these two groups with differing cultural backgrounds working together will weave storytelling, music and various art forms into finished workshop performances throughout the city challenging complex issues of difference and tolerance with messaging of belonging and working together. It will intentionally challenge diverse audiences expectations by engaging with Boston's broader communities. Participants will be given the final right of approval of the script.
